What is the Political Courage Test?

Tennessee Congressional Election 2012 Political Courage Test

Pro-choice Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
I believe we should do everything possible to facilitate adoption and provide the social, financial, and emotional support to make abortions less likely.
No Do you support United States' combat operations in Afghanistan?
Yes Do you support a timetable for withdrawal from Afghanistan?
I believe the troops should be withdrawn as soon as possible including American private security contractors.

Indicate which proposals you support (if any) for balancing the federal budget. In order to balance the budget,

Yes do you support reducing defense spending?
Yes do you support an income tax increase on any tax bracket?
No do you support reducing Medicaid spending?
No do you support reducing Medicare spending?
No Is balancing the budget a legislative priority?
I want to reign in spending but not on the backs of the middle class and the working poor.
Yes Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
I support the public funding of elections and a spending cap on how much individual campaigns can spend. This will end the hold that special interests have over politics. In addition it will foster a true debate on issues between all candidates and allow the public to have a more informed decision.
No Do you support capital punishment for certain crimes?
Yes Do you support federal spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
Yes Do you support providing tax incentives to businesses for the purpose of job creation?
Yes Do you support spending on infrastructure projects for the purpose of job creation?
Yes Do you support the temporary extension of unemployment benefits?
Yes Do you support the 2010 temporary extension of tax relief?
I support some incentives to business providing that they contribute to the tax base and provide good paying jobs. Whenever possible small locally owned businesses should be supported.
No Do you support requiring states to implement education reforms in order to be eligible for competitive federal grants?
These reforms usually are to privatize education and encourage the establishment of charter schools which I do not support.
No Do you support reducing restrictions on offshore energy production?
Environmental enforcement must be maintained. To do anything less encourages us as a nation to remain dependent on fossil fuels.
Yes Do you believe that human activity is contributing to climate change?
Yes Do you support the federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions?
We need to craft a national energy policy that focuses on renewable energy such as solar, wind, and geo-thermal and become less dependent on coal, oil, and especially nuclear. Every public building in the U.S. should have some form of renewable energy source. This would be helpful in case of natural disaster and would also contribute to the technology becoming more affordable for private homeowners.
Yes Do you support restrictions on the purchase and possession of guns?
I support responsible gun ownership for those who feel they have a legitimate need for protection or who use firearms for sport and hunting. These individuals would have to pass a strict background check. However I believe that assault rifles, semi automatic, and automatic weapons, as well as cheap handguns should not be available for sale.
No Do you support repealing the 2010 Affordable Care Act?
No Should individuals be required to purchase health insurance, as mandated in the 2010 Affordable Care Act?
I would like to extend the Affordable Care Act to more of a universal single payer insurance program. Essentially establishing medicare for all.
No Do you support requiring illegal immigrants to return to their country of origin before they are eligible for citizenship?
Yes Do you support allowing illegal immigrants, who were brought to the United States as minors, to pursue citizenship without returning to their country of origin?
No Do you support the enforcement of federal immigration law by state and local police?
I would support creating a pathway for citizenship to those who have worked, paid taxes and have been productive citizens.
Yes Do you support same-sex marriage?
No Do you support targeting suspected terrorists outside of official theaters of conflict?
No Should the U.S use military force in order to prevent Iran from possessing a nuclear weapon?
Terrorism is primarily a law enforcement problem and should be treated as such. The US should bring diplomatic and political pressure on Iran not to develop a nuclear weapon and to conform to the rules of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty which it is a member of. Likewise the US should not be assisting other countries such as India in refining their nuclear capabilities.
No Do you support allowing individuals to divert a portion of their Social Security taxes into personal retirement accounts?
Social Security is insurance not an investment plan. I believe laws should be eased to allow people to invest more toward retirement and get tax advantages.
